I was just perusing the teaching channel.org and found an interesting video that connects to the article I read yesterday on using film in class. In this video the teacher is working on an extended writing assignment using
a film. I the lesson was easy to follow. Students worked collaboaratively to write a review of the movie The Others staring Nicole Kidman. Once again my mind is whirling. I am thinking of uses for my Social Studies classroom.
I read an interesting article on using film in the classroom put out by Education Week. It talked about how English Teachers use film to teach students critical thinking skills. I thought to myself that using film in the Social Studies Classroom is a useful tool. This is a great time to look how film is used in the Social Studies classroom, and start to think about how to use film as another method to bring the common core into the classroom.
