While they sat in rows and worked on their assessments, I popped on my pedometer paced up and down the aisles. I was monitoring the students to make sure that no one did anything sneaky to compromise the test. While I was pacing my mind wandered just a little. Okay, okay maybe more than a little. Here are some of my random thoughts while the students took the assessment.
Why doesn't DESE have an MCAS for Social Studies? Math, ELA and Science all have one. Some in every grade.
Ten steps up one aisle, no twelve.
"If you liked it than you should have put a ring on it." Beyonce, what are you doing in my head?
Is this pacing making the students nervous?
I need to correct some papers.
Maybe it is for the best that there is no Social Studies ELA. After all, look at all the extra stress on those teachers at testing time. I don't need all of that anxiety worrying how my students will do.
OMG it has only been 20 minutes.
Up one aisle, down the next.
"All the single ladies."
My desk is such a mess. I need to organize myself.
Pedometer check. 624 steps.
Do I have enough rubrics to grade the 8th grade summaries?
Ouch. I banged into a desk. I am such a klutz.
Did I copy the coloring papers for later?
Walk, walk , walk.
Ohh...hand up.
Whispered, "What?"
"I need my pencil sharpened."
"K."
Pick up the history text. What pages do we need to read on the Industrial Revolution?
Ouch. Again?!!
"I love rock and roll." Joan Jett, nice of you to join me.
I am tired.
I am bored.
I am tired.
I am bored.
I am tired.
Kids still working hard. That's good.
Pace, pace, pace.
Walk, walk, walk.
Fast, slow, fast, slow.
Pedometer check, Wow...1526 steps.
When's lunch, I'm hungry. I shouldn't be hungry, but I am.
I wonder if the kids are hungry?
Still working hard.
Hand up...
"I'm done."
Collect test hand her a book. Keep walking.
Tic toc
Tic-tac-toe
Focus.
Start thinking about next week. What do we need to do.
7th grade. Study of Greece. Myths? Which one should I read aloud? Hmmm
Walking, walking, walking. Up one aisle, down the next.
It is very quiet in here.
Kids still working. Good.
Another one done.
Pace, pace, pace.
Another one finished.
Good, they are starting to finish.
Lunch in 45 minutes. Hope all will be done.
Pedometer check... 2226.
Wish I had my book to read.
Lunch time. Not every one done. What do I do? Check direction sheet.
Escort them to lunch and bring them right up to the library.
Ahhhhh!
